Sharing your yoga practice with family
Yoga at home
If lockdown has taught us anything is that it is OK to practise yoga in our own space. Although many people prefer a studio set-up, it has been refreshing to discover a home practice.
I started lockdown joining in with live classes from a local yoga studio in Leeds alongside pre-recorded videos and moved slowly onto a self-practice.
My children, Felix age 6 and Felicity age 4 see me in my yoga clothes on my yoga mat almost everyday. If I do other forms of exercise they call it yoga. I love that they are so familiar with yoga at such a young age and join in with me when they’re not absorbed in Netflix or playing their favourite games together.
Kids yoga
I recently filmed a yoga class with my Son for his school in Meanwood, Leeds for Mental Health Awareness week. It was the first time I had filmed myself teaching a class and the first time I taught children and I loved it so much. The feedback from parents was brilliant and some even asked for more videos in the future. I would love to start a local kids yoga class.
The benefits of yoga for kids
Yoga for children is so beneficial for counteracting their worries and stress which they might experience, especially since the global pandemic began. This world is challenging for adults so it is hard to imagine how the children of the world are really feeling.
