Revitalise the body using an organ meditation

There are lots of apps out there such as Calm to help those new to meditation find a simple way in. Guided meditations help us get used to sitting quietly, connecting to the breath and beginning to meditate. The other benefits of Calm are the daily meditation offerings known as Daily Calms.

However, during my first yoga teacher training and now after my second training it has become clear that it is important to try and begin your journey unguided. By this I mean getting used to sitting with yourself, without noise or someone telling you how to breathe. The reason why we might lean towards guided is because in the beginning it is easier to listen to a calm voice advising on how we can relax. Sitting in silence might bring up lots of thoughts and chatter. My advice would be to begin (as I did) with guided. I use both and continue to work on my meditation practice.

Remember to always be kind to yourself.

Try this organ meditation today

Set up in meditation, tall spine, comfortable seat. Feel your body being breathed. Let any thoughts come and go, no judgement or opinions on how you are breathing.

Begin to connect with your organs in your body. Nurturing you and keeping you alive. Then begin to focus on each organ in turn and the related colour;

Kidneys - sapphire blue - either side of spine at level of the waist

Heart - warm red - centre and centre left of the chest

Liver - Forest green - upper abdomen on the right hand side

Stomach/spleen - golden yellow - Upper abdomen on left side

Reproductive organs - soft warm pink - vagina/ ovaries, uterus, penis, prostate, testes

Lungs - white - awareness to upper chest, mid chest and the whole rib cage

Try and let me know how you get on.
