Sun and Moon Energy

The moon and sun are two of our solar system's most important celestial bodies. They are also closely related to the energies within our bodies. In the yogic tradition, the moon is associated with the feminine energy, and the sun is associated with the masculine energy. These two energies are also known as the yin and yang energies. Finding balance between these energies is essential for living a healthy and harmonious life.

Nadies

In our bodies, the feminine energy is located in the left side of the body, while the masculine energy is located in the right side. These energies flow through channels in our bodies called nadis. There are said to be 72,000 nadis in the human body, but there are three main nadis that are of particular importance: ida, pingala, and sushumna.

Ida is associated with the feminine energy, and it flows through the left side of the body. Pingala is associated with the masculine energy, and it flows through the right side of the body. Sushumna is the central channel and is associated with balance and spiritual awakening. When these nadis are balanced, energy flows freely through the body, and we experience good health, vitality, and a sense of well-being.

Pranayama

One way to balance these energies is through pranayama, or breathing exercises. Nadi Shodhana, also known as alternate nostril breathing, is an excellent pranayama for balancing the masculine and feminine energies. To practice Nadi Shodhana, sit comfortably with your back straight and your eyes closed. Place your left hand on your left knee with your palm facing up.

How to practise Nadi Shodhana

Bring your right hand up to your nose and use your thumb to close your right nostril. Inhale deeply through your left nostril. Pause for a moment, then close your left nostril with your ring finger, and exhale through your right nostril. Inhale through your right nostril, pause, then close your right nostril with your thumb, and exhale through your left nostril. This is one round of Nadi Shodhana. Repeat for several rounds, gradually increasing the length of your inhalations and exhalations.

Through the practice of Nadi Shodhana, we can begin to balance the masculine and feminine energies within us. As we become more balanced, we may notice an increase in our overall sense of well-being and a greater ability to cope with stress and difficult situations. We may also experience greater creativity, intuition, and a deeper sense of connection with the world around us.

Finding a balance between our masculine and feminine energies is essential for living a healthy and harmonious life. Through practising pranayama, such as Nadi Shodhana, we can begin to balance these energies and experience greater health, vitality, and a deeper sense of connection with ourselves and the world around us. It is important to remember that finding balance is an ongoing process, and it requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to explore and experiment with different practices and techniques.
